Tasmanian Digital Television

Southern Cross Broadcasting and Win Corporation joined forces in 2002 to apply for the new digital-only commercial television licence for Tasmania. It was granted to the joint company, named Tasmanian Digital Television, and test transmissions began from Hobart on 22nd December 2003. It officially launched on New Year's Day 2004, broadcasting on VHF11 from Mt Wellington in Hobart, on FTA digital only - the first commercial station in Australia to do so.
At first the service took a direct feed from ATV10 Melbourne, but eventually local advertising was sold on the station and inserted between programmes. Southern Cross, which has affiliation with both the Seven and Ten Networks, retained the right to show Ten content either at the same time or before TDT - meaning no Ten shows could be broadcast first on TDT if Southern Cross wanted to screen it.
Coverage began expanding on UHF throughout the rest of Tasmania from August 2004.
