QQQ-ITQ Regional Television
ITQ8 Mt. Isa began on 11 September 1971. This, along with QQQ (which served remote areas of Queensland, parts of NSW and the Northern Territory) joined to create QSTV (Queensland Satellite Television) in around 1984 so they could bid for the television licence of north-east Australia, when Australia's first satellite was launched. In September 1985, they were granted the licence. On 29 April 1988 it started broadcasting. QSTV broadcast to everywhere in north-east Australia, through satellite, that could not already receive television.
Since then, many towns and communities have began retransmitting this service so it can be received normally on a TV set, although it can be received free from a set-top unit if you live in the right area. This network had a mixture of programs, the majority from Ten.
In December 1998, QSTV was aggregated with the area of Imparja Television, and both services were also expanded to regional Tasmania and Victoria. QSTV then covered most of central, north-east and south-east Australia.
On the 1 February 1999 the service changed to an affiliate of the Seven Network, changing the name to Seven Central. |
