Sonia started out at 6PR Perth in 1990, while also working weekends with Channel 7 as a journalist and newsreader. She anchored GWN News in Bunbury from 1998 to 2000, after which she moved back to Perth and 6PR. Channel 9 then took her on-board as a weekend presenter, until June 2003, when Sonia and Dixie Marshall became the first two female newsreaders in Australia to present a news bulletin together. They both continue to host the 6pm National Nine News.
